Palaphita Kitch
Palaphita Kitch recreates a typical Amazonian retreat, designed as a low impact, environmentally friendly, architecture and landscaping enterprise, built by Lagoa Rodrigo de Freitas shores, right on the very heart of the city of Rio de Janeiro. The Amazonian native ingredients, such as the jambu, the tucupi, the "cupuaçú", the coalho cheese, the "tambaqui", the açai, the sapotilha and the alligator meat inspire their cuisine. Traditional Amazonian recipes, borrowed from the tribal and true palafita comunities, are presented on their menu, blended with cosmopolitan spices, enhancing flavors and the gourmet experience.

Capricciosa - Pizza
One of the trendiest pizza restaurants in town, Capricciosa has been a hit since it first opened 3 years ago. A large wood-burning oven dominates the back of the room and turns out great-tasting pizzas and calzones, from the plain Pizza Margarita with mozzarella, Parmesan, and fresh basil and tomato to the signature Capricciosa with tomato, ham, artichoke, mushrooms, bacon, and egg. The restaurant also has a delicious cold-cut and antipasto buffet, served with slices of homemade crusty bread. Those who prefer a more low-key and intimate setting can opt for the wine bar, to the left of the busy and bustling main dining room; the menus are the same.

Amir Restaurant
The restaurant before Amir was known under the name of Canadian Shop, a few Deli that the restaurant was turning. Each customer comes, chose the cold, folders, the bread and wine, at that time there were only two small tables. Gradually the passion of the owner by the Lebanese cuisine has raised kibes, esfihas and famous dishes of the day, such as rice with lamb, stuffed eggplant and finally, each day a different dish. It has been growing and increasingly was necessary to increase a table, until it was renamed and thus was born the AMIR.

Circulo Militar - Brazilian
Whenever we want to see one of the best views in the city -- and do it over a beer and munchies -- we head to the Circulo Militar. This fabulous view of the Sugarloaf and Bay comes courtesy of the Brazilian armed forces (hey, if you're gonna run the country, you may as well take the best views). From the tree-shaded patio of a military club in Urca called the Circulo Militar, you look out across a tiny bay full of fishing boats to the sheer solid sides of the Pão de Açúcar. Come in the evening and you also get the lights of Niterói twinkling far off across the waters of Guanabara Bay. Civilians are completely welcome at the club (though some of the prime tables are sometimes reserved for officers). The menu serves up standard Brazilian fare (the two stars are for the view, not for the food) such as the churrasco for two with beef, sausage, chicken, and pork served with fries and rice (R$31/US$13). In the evenings the kitchen fires up the wood-burning oven and turns out some decent pizzas. There's live music from 8pm onwards, Tuesday through Sunday.
